IHN at Prairie STEM

On July 19th, 2023 the Institute for Human Neuroscience (IHN) had the privilege of partnering with an outstanding program in the Omaha community called Prairie STEM.

Prairie STEM is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing critical thinking and creativity among students in grades Pk – 12. They offer hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning opportunities and aim to build both academic and essential skills in students.

During our visit, Sophia Quintero, IHN's Community Outreach Coordinator, and Julianne Matczyszyn, IHN's Scientific Communications Manager, had the opportunity to introduce various job roles and career paths among the team members of IHN. We explained how these roles contribute to the functioning and success of IHN as a leading research institute. Additionally, we described the types of research conducted at IHN, the questions we explore, and our research methodologies. This discussion helped illustrate why IHN values individuals with diverse skills, backgrounds, and degrees as integral members of our team.

The Institute is enthusiastic about its partnership with Prairie STEM. Our collaboration aligns with our shared goal of making a positive impact on underrepresented communities. We aim to provide support and create pathways for success in science through inclusion, equity, and the promotion of diversity at all levels.
