IHN at APTA

Morgan Busboom, DPT, PhD, was a recent PhD student in the PoWER lab at IHN. She presented her latest work at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) conference in Houston, February 13-15th.

Additionally, Dr. Busboom’s poster was awarded “Best Poster Abstract” at the conference!

See Dr. Busboom’s award-winning poster below along with a summary of the research.

Enhancing Mobility in Persons with Cerebral Palsy through Increased Attentional Monitoring of Sensory Feedback

Prior MEG studies had shown that persons with CP have diminished somatosensory cortical activity, but it wasn’t yet know if a therapeutic approach focused on sensorimotor integration would cause beneficial clinical and neuroplastic changes. The results demonstrated that persons with CP have diminished somatosensory cortical activity compared to NT controls, and there were no therapeutic differences in persons with CP. However, the researchers did observe improved functional mobility and increased activity in the anterior cingulate, suggesting that persons with CP may have been better able to attend to the sensory feedback post-therapy.
