IHN at NE SciFest Expo

On Saturday, April 29th, hundreds of families from the arrived at the historical Durham Museum in downtown Omaha for the 10th annual Nebraska Science Festival Exposition. This year, over 20 different organizations, universities, institutes, and programs gathered to showcase just how exciting, interesting, and diverse science is! The Institute for Human Neuroscience’s (IHN) outreach coordinator (Sophia A. Quintero) and scientific communications manager (Dr. Julianne Matczyszyn), along with 8 other students and staff, participated in the event. The IHN booth had a 3D-printed model of one of our 6-year-old research participant’s brain, which captivated many children and their parents! We also had the opportunity to educate the families about how the brain works through a hands-on demonstration using an electrical current to simulate how our brains tell our body to move (through electrical currents between neurons). It was also an excellent opportunity to talk about the research that scientists at IHN do and even meet new and eager research participants! We can’t wait to participate again next year!
