Dr. Kurz’s New R01 Grant
Cerebral palsy (CP) results from a perinatal brain injury that instigates lifelong challenges in mobility. In September 2022, Dr. Max Kurz of the Physiology of Walking and Engineering Rehabilitation (PoWER) Lab, received an R01 grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the NIH to accelerate the development of new biomarkers that capture the connection between nervous system dysfunction and the altered mobility seen in youth with CP through brain imaging, spinal cord assessments, and clinical tests. The new indices developed through this important project will provide unprecedented neurophysiological specificity for developing therapeutic targets for individuals with CP.
