Dr. Taylor Receives New R21 Grant Award

Home radon is a ubiquitous carcinogen that is known to alter inflammatory activity in the body and poses a significant threat to families across the United States. In March of 2023, Dr. Brittany Taylor was awarded a R21 grant by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to investigate the pathways through which chronic radon exposure and toxin-induced changes in inflammation are associated with brain function, and cognitive and mental health in youths. Despite abundant research linking even low-grade chronic inflammation to irregularities in neural development, and to the development of psychological symptoms, research has yet to examine the degree to which radon exposure is linked to these neural and behavioral phenotypes. The work Dr. Taylor and her team do have the potential to shape the future of public health policy surrounding radon awareness and mitigation efforts.
